Pope Francis said today that in the current economic and financial crisis, which particularly affects large parts of Europe, we see the results of a “savage capitalism“, which introduced the logic of benefit to “any cost.”
During a visit to the institution “Gift of Maria”, which gives assistance to the poor, run by the Vatican and the Missionary nuns of Charity, the Pope asked to the society to recover the sense of “gratuitousness and solidarity”.
“A savage capitalism taught the logic of the benefit at any cost, to give to receive, profit without regard for the people … and the results are seen in the crisis we are experiencing,” said FrancisĀ during the visit, in statements to the Italian media during the visit, 25 years after the inauguration of the institution by Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
